Ntsiki Ngwenya: Mothami Enviromental

Ntsiki Ngwenya’s passion lies in effective and environmentally conscious waste management. Having completed the Supplier Development Programme nothing is holing this lady back on tackling the major issues.

Ntsiki-ngwenya Mothami Environmental started operating in December 2010, under the leadership of Gauteng local, Ntsiki Ngwena. “We do integrated waste management, which includes the safe handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, recyclable waste and live the principle of the recycle, reuse, reduce and repair concept,” Ntsiki explains.

“By turning garbage into a resource, we minimise the amount of waste that goes to the landfills, while at the same time reducing cost and increasing revenue for the client. We’re talking anything from food wastes all the way through to industrial oil.” Ntsiki goes says that her sheet passion for what she does is what drove her to start her start her own business. “I get to see the results first hand knowing that what I put into the business will contribute directly to my success. I am able to set my own goals and if things don’t go according to plan, I don’t have anyone to blame but myself.”

With a staff compliment of four permanent employees, Ntsiki is very proud to say that her employees are trained in all the relevant safety disciplines at the required NQF levels. This also helps to ensure sustainability. A big hurdle for Mothami Environmental is having to compete with large waste management companies who have been around for many years. This has resulted in the business not expanding to where Ntsiki would have liked to be.

Having said that, Mothami has partnered with heavy hitters in the waste management industry, teaming up with big players such as Yaron Waste Management and The Old Oil man, which deals in liquid waste solutions. Ntsiki also boasts a client list of well-known brands, including Eskom Plascon, and Adock Ingram, to name a few. “We should never leave anything to chance.”

As a graduate of the MEDO Supplier Development Programme, she says that “MEDO has helped us realise that we have to learn a lot in order for us to grow. We also identified our weaknesses and threats, so that they can be adequately addressed. The greatest lesson I have learnt is that we should not leave anything to chance. Every opportunity needs to be tackled immediately because if you snooze, you lose. Procrastination is a thief of time.

An important part of the Supplier Development Programme is that entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to present their businesses to the Heads of Procurement from a range of corporate. “Learning to do a professional presentation and then showcasing my business to all these decision makers has been so valuable. I have high hopes that I will be able to do more business because of this.”

With her enthusiasm having been revived. Ntsiki concludes by saying that waste management is a broad, exciting field.” “The fact that waste is generated every minute makes us realise the potential to grow and tap into other waste streams.”

“I look forward to seeing my business go from strength to strength.”
