Josias Motsoeneng: AC Electromech

Josias Motsoeneng’s electrical and refrigeration business, AC Electromech Maintenance Services, is a recognised cost saving and maintenance company, which prides itself in delivering exceptional services in the mining, agricultural, industrial, commercial and retail sectors.

Josias

Founded in 2006 and based in Middelburg, AC Electromech operates in the Highveld area of Mpumalanga and has expanded into Africa by establishing a presence in Ghana and Zambia.

Josias joined the company in 2008 while it was still in its early development stages and it was the continuous need for energy services and air conditioning, especially after the country experienced a power crisis in 2007, that drew him to the company. According to Josias, “A lot of companies experienced unforeseen costs due to power failures and global warming kept the demand high for air conditioning. Since inception, we have employed eight people and there are four directors. We strive to be the employer of choice and boldly challenge our competitors with service excellence. We are the leading electrical and refrigeration company in Middleburg and our medium-term goal is to be the preferred electrical and refrigeration company in South Africa.”

The company has only been in existence for six years and has managed to make a mark in its chosen industry. It has developed a strong client base and a recognised brand in the mining, industrial and agricultural sector and they continue to grow from strength to strength. The financial impact of undetected moisture problems in buildings is tremendous and on the rise, while the need to locate moisture in buildings accurately and efficiently remains a challenge. “By using our services, clients can reduce liability and inspection time and potentially increase their bottom line”.

What has helped them edge out the competition is their quick response time, competitive pricing and diversification, and the fact that they have acquired and developed operational resources for over five years. This has given them an added advantage over other companies in the same sector as theirs. Josias adds: “AC Electromech has positioned itself to support and safeguard the interests of our clients in this sphere.

We also provide contract employment and Plant equipment hire. This extends our footprint with current and future clients, assuring them of our continuous services even in uncertain times. These are some of the benefits of doing business with us.” Along with the success he enjoys, Josias feels it’s only his unwavering tenacity that has helped him overcome the many challenges a life of entrepreneurship brings. “Tenacity is a very difficult discipline to learn. There are times when I’ve had to go on for over three months making a loss and subsidising company expenses from my own savings. My biggest challenge is ensuring continuous cash flow and the sustainability of the business when times get tough.”

The past four years have taught Josias that entrepreneurship is about serving people. “I have to continue serving people and paying salaries, even when the economy is unstable and not bearing fruits for businesses.”

Josias promotes ethical business practices and effective communication with customers and suppliers. He also empowers his employees and community by promoting safe health and environmental practices. Josias has managed to weather the storms and knows that being an entrepreneur isn’t just about creating personal wealth. So what can other entrepreneurs learn from him?

“Do what you are passionate about and gifted in. There is nothing more frustrating than getting into a line of business because your friend or neighbour makes a lot more money from it. If you are in business for the wrong reasons, you are worse off than someone who is employed.” His future goals are to get to a point where the company is a nationally recognised name in Maintenance, Engineering, Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Labour and Plant hire services.
